ABS is excited to host its first virtual education program of the new year, “Begonia Basics: Lessons from a Begonia Boss”, by Al Palacio, on Saturday, February 12. Registration is required to attend.

Al’s program is a great introduction and guide to the world of begonias. Some topics include:

  • A brief history of begonias
  • An introduction to the types of begonias and their general care
  • Advice on growing conditions to consider such as light, fertilizers, growing mediums, and more
  • Tips for identifying and dealing with common Begonia pests

About the Presenter:

Al Palacio lives in sunny California and has been an ABS member for nearly 40 years.  A past-president of several Southern California ABS branches, Al has given programs and workshops over the years and has covered such topics as Begonia care, terrarium cultivation, creativity with plants, and more, but says that “plant propagation remains my number one passion and brings me to my plant Zen.”

When Al is not attending to the Begonia world, he serves as a consultant for the Los Angeles Homeless Services Administration and is a Co-chair of the Lived Experience Advisory Board. Pre-pandemic, Al spent much of his time working in the Emergency Department of Harbor UCLA Medical Center “connecting the most vulnerable of us to much needed resources and services.”

As a special treat, this program will feature a random-drawing for a $100 credit at Al’s Etsy shop, ShadyPlaces. Only those attending the program are eligible to win.

This ABS Virtual Education program is open to the general public. ABS is excited for this opportunity to educate as many people as possible, about the basics for growing begonias. Please share this invitation with those you feel may be interested in attending!

The meeting opens at 11:45 AM and the program will start at noon. Registration is required, and you can do so at any time to receive the link to join the meeting. After registering, you will automatically receive a confirmation email with information about joining the program.  Please note that we are limited to 500 participants, so make sure to register in advance and join the program on time.
