Joan Coulat-Sacramento Branch Plant of the Month All Branches look for ways to encourage attendance at their meetings.
The editor of the Joan Coulat-Sacramento Branch newsletter, Paul Tsamtsis,
came up with the idea of having members write up information about their
experiences with different begonias and present it as a monthly handout to
the membership. His inspiration came from Don Miller’s work of showcasing
begonias in the Southwest Region newsletter.
These handouts are printed on cardstock and given out to people who
attend the meetings. Branch members who do not live within a reasonable
drive of the Garden Center are mailed a copy with their monthly
newsletter.
As time went by growers from all over were asked to contribute to this
effort with either text or photographs. At least a couple times a year,
people from as far away as Australia, offer their experiences with growing
a particular begonia. Most of the time, these guest contributors write
about their own hybrids. When the contributor does not live in Northern
California, their hometown is indicated in the byline.
Remember that the cultural information is based on the experience of
the author. The climate of where they write must be considered when
evaluating their information.
With that caveat, feel free to use these handouts any way you see fit,
so long as they remain in the Adobe Acrobat format presented to you.
Anyone who wishes to contribute to this effort is asked to contact the
editor of the Joan Coulat-Sacramento Branch at sacramento@begonias.org.
