American Begonia Society National Convention 2013
Begonias The Great Adventure

May 29th thru June 2nd

Known for Begonias, music, and so much more.

Years ago when people talked about Austin they would quickly mention the music. But that's just the beginning of what they're saying these days. Austin is also home to a wonderful ballet, world-class museums, one-of-a-kind shopping and beautiful outdoor spaces. You can just as easily spend your morning paddling the lake as you can strolling through a celebrated history museum. And it's okay if you don't have time to fit it all in, you can just come back and visit us again.

Tour Details ABS 2013 Convention – Austin, TX

Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum One of the most popular attractions in Central Texas, the Museum has been visited by over 5 million people coming from every state in the United States and every continent on Earth. This includes viewing of your choice of one of two twenty minute shows in the Texas Sprit Theater.  Texas café is located in the museum for a snack or late lunch.
Tour #2 (Departs 8:00am): Thursday May 30, 2013 – Scenic bus ride to Fredericksburg, TX (lunch on your own  at your choice of downtown restaurants) and a visit to the Wildseed Farms.

Fredericksburg - Founded in 1846 by German immigrants.  With spectacular views of Texas Hill Country, Fredericksburg has retained much of its German history, with many of the older buildings keeping their original German styles.  History buffs will enjoy a day at one of the town's historical sites, including Fort Martin Scott, Pioneer Museum Complex and Museum Of The Pacific War.  Shopping is one of the town's main attractions, with over 150 stores that sell a range of items from handmade jewelry, home decor, artwork and so much more.

Wildseed Farms The farm has more than 1,000 cultivated acres in Texas and over 200 acres of wildflower fields at its Hill Country headquarters outside of Fredericksburg. Come and view a real working wildflower farm and stay to shop at Blossoms Boutique, Lantana Nursery and the famous Brewbonnet Biergarten. Wine tasting is available. Try five different Texas Hill Country Wines for $5.00, payable at that time.

Tour #3 (Departs 8:30am): Friday May 31, 2013 – Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center (lunch on your own available in café), The Natural Gardner, and the African Violet Society show/sale.

The Natural Gardener Natural Gardener is one of the most beautiful and unique garden centers in the world. It’s like a candy store for gardeners, but non-gardeners love it, too. It’s a fun, beautiful, educational destination for everyone.

Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center The Center’s gardens display the native plants of the Central Texas Hill Country, South and West Texas, while the Plant Conservation Program protects the ecological heritage of Texas by conserving its rare and endangered flora. The Native Plant Information Network is a database of more than 7,200 native species available online.

Violet Plant Show/Sale Austin will be hosting the African Violet Society National Convention.  There will be many out of state commercial African violet vendors selling African violets and growing supplies.
